What do funeral directors do?
A: Funeral directors and embalmers are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and are responsible for the care and preparation of the deceased person from the time they are picked up until final disposition, whether that is burial or cremation. They also are responsible for the arrangement of the series of events necessary for the funeral or memorial service. The legal paperwork, including death certificates, Social Security notification and newspaper notices are the responsibility of the funeral director. If requested, they can file insurance claims for the family. In the State of Oklahoma, a licensed funeral director must be in attendance for the funeral service and the burial.
